Query: How many different Epcot international coin sets are there?

Answer: Although I do not collect these, I have uncovered at least 9 variations. (Most information comes from Ebay listings)

11-COIN SETS

The initial coin sets contained 11 coins, representing the major pavilions at Epcot: U.S., Canada, Mexico, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Norway, Italy and Germany.  The Euro Zone countries were still represented by their pre-Euro coinage.  These early sets also had Hong Kong coins to represent China.  The initial 11-coin versions I have encountered are shown here:

Original retail price: $7.95

Original retail price: $9.95

Special packaging for the 2000 Epcot celebration

Disney doesn’t include copyright dates, so this is the only set where the packaging points to a particular year

Original price: $9.95

Original retail price: 9.95

12-COIN SETS

In later years, Epcot added a coin for the lesser pavilion “African Outpost,” generally featuring a coin from Malawi.  These sets then had 12 coins: Malawi, U.S., Canada, Mexico, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Norway, Italy and Germany.  Nations using the Euro were represented by Euro coinage (Germany, France and Italy) for all 12-coin sets of this era.  China coins switched from Hong Kong to mainland China coins.

12th coin added: Malawi

Original retail price: $9.95 – later raised to $12.95

Some packages erroneously label Mexico as “Mexico City” on the front (top row center)

Starting with the Malawi, set, I have generally only kept photos of the package reverses, generally from Ebay listings.  I focused on the reverses because they give a clearer description of the coins; I have not been focused on differences in the artwork on the front, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that artwork changed over time as well.  There have also been changes in the types of coins included (such as 1 Euro cent vs. 2 Euro cents), which I have not tracked.

I don’t know the full timing of later versions, but Epcot stuck with the 12-coin sets and started switching coins to represent nations that did not have a presence at World Showcase:

This version replaced Morocco with Zimbabwe, giving the African Outpost two slots in the set.

Original retail price: $12.95

This set includes Poland, Brazil and Finland.  Malawi is gone.  Thus, the lineup of nations represented is Germany, Mexico, Zimbabwe (representing the African Outpost), United Kingdom, Poland, France, Canada, United States, Italy, Brazil, China and Finland.  Missing are Morocco, Norway, and Japan. France has an obsolete 5 centimes coin instead of a Euro coin.

Although Canada has stopped producing its penny, it is still represented in these sets.

Original price: $12.99

Same set as above (with Poland, Brazil and Finland), but with color Epcot logo on the package front
