PULLMAN NATIONAL MONUMENT TOKEN Chicago, Illinois High-relief token from the historical site of the
Pullman factory and company town, now part of the city of Chicago. Both sides shown in photo. Token is about the same diameter as other
national park tokens. |
OUTLET OFFERING – BLEMISHED MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY We have sets of 4 pennies that were rolled on copper
coins that show streaks and an occasional stain. They may have been cleaned
coins; we do not clean our coins, so we’re offering these as-is. You may be able to clean them and improve
them, but they actually look pretty good to start with – they’re just not the
quality we prefer to sell. This is our set #IL17 (PennyCollector machine 1). So you can see the designs, we are showing
a photo of the good sets we sell at a higher price; these blemished sets (in
lesser condition) are being offered for $4, and we have two sets
available. Copper cents. TWO BLEMISHED SETS AVAILABLE |

CHICAGO
CUBS – SPORTS WORLD Chicago,
Illinois |
MINI
WRIGLEY PARK It’s rare that we offer something that
is blatantly unpennyish (is that a word? It is now!), but we thought Cubs
fans might appreciate these souvenir packages with a small book and a small
resin replica of Wrigley Field. The
original price was $24.99, but we have some for half price - $12.49. They are unused, but we slit open
the plastic tape to inspect and confirm that the models were intact. We have only 3 copies (and we will list
them on eBay soon if they don’t sell out here). No extra charge for shipping – our
usual flat rate applies to your entire order! |

THE CHICAGO COIN
SHOWS Annual conventions of
the American Numismatics Association and the Central States Numismatic
Society are held in the Chicago area, creating great opportunities for
collectors to build their collections – not to mention the prevalence of
penny presses throughout the Chicago area.
Attending the CSNS show in April (in Schaumburg) and the ANA World’s
Fair of Money in August (Rosemont-O’Hare) are highlights of my year. |
|
|||||||
A COLLECTION OF CENTRAL STATES NUMISMATIC SOCIETY (CSNS) ANNUAL
TOKENS The CSNS
show issues a promotional coin each year to promote the event. We have quantities of 5 years (2010, 2011,
2012, 2016, 2017). These coins are
slightly larger than a quarter and are legendary for obverses that reproduce
old U.S. coin designs. We are
offering all 5 for one low price, or you can order individually by year. Three come in flips, and two are
loose. |
|
RAY DILLARD’S LAST PROJECT: CSNS 2020 SHOW COIN FOR CANCELED CONVENTION When Ray
passed away, the die for the Central States Numismatic Society’s 2020 show
coin was still in his machine, and a bag of rolled pennies was discovered
next to the machine. These were sent
by TEC officers to the CSNS to fulfil Ray’s obligation. The
convention, however, was canceled due to COVID. The coins sat in storage until 2024, when
they were offered at the convention in May.
These are
rolled on copper cents with stained/dyed red backgrounds. They were not cleaned or polished, so
some show minor stains or patina.
I have weeded out any with major staining. (I have come across a couple
with different backs, and one rolled on zinc) The design
depicts a steam locomotive emerging from the CSNS logo, with dates and
location for the canceled 2020 show. This is a
rare opportunity to secure an important coin in Ray’s long history in our
hobby. These will come with a souvenir card (about the size of a
baseball card) that we created to highlight this coin’s history. Prior purchasers will automatically
receive cards in the mail (being sent around June 5). |

SHOW COIN ROLLED BY RAY DILLARD ON LUXEMBOURG ALUMINUM I
had Ray roll 10 copies of the 2019 CSNS design on Luxembourg 25 centimes,
which are made from aluminum. They
make beautiful impressions. I have 7
copies available. They roll about the
size of a nickel because of the soft metal. |

CENTRAL STATES NUMISMATIC
SOCIETY 2018 CONVENTION
ELONGATED COINS Schaumburg,
Illinois We discovered a hoard
of these convention coins rolled by Ray Dillard for the April 2018
convention. They are rolled on copper
cents with stained backs showing Lincoln’s head and the penny’s date. Due to handling over the years, I
characterize them as being in circulated
condition. |

OWL |
GREAT WOLF LODGE, GURNEE ILLINOIS MEDALLIONS All medallions are about the size of a silver dollar and
brass-colored. They are not in mint

process and handling. There are four
designs at the resort; we only have three designs available. Photo shows both sides. MAGIQUEST |

PINE TREE SHILLING CSNS 2024 SHOW EXCLUSIVE Between 500 and 800 replica coins
were made for the 2024 Central States convention in May. They are rolled on pewter using a rocker
press, and are actually made from elongated blanks that are positioned in the
press to change an elongated blank into a round coin. I will be writing an article for TECNews
about these “unelongated” coins. Each coin is hand-rolled and will
have minor centering variations. The
photo shows a representative sample of what we are selling. The inner ring on the date side has an
inscription for the CSNS show. This is the first such project by
Joe Paonessa of the Root River Mint.
He will re-use the obverse die, and will create similar reverse dies
that replace the CSNS inscription with wording for other events and sponsors. GOING FAST! |

ALL MACHINES WERE RETIRED IN APRIL 2024 WHEN THE MUSEUM WAS
RENAMED
|
U-BOAT COINS ON GERMAN EURO COINS We sprayed
a green dye on the oak cluster side of German 2-euro-cent coins (the Ray
Dillard method) and pressed these with the oak clusters on the reverse. These coins are the same size as an
American penny. You get the two U-505
designs from the submarine exhibit at the Museum of Science &
Industry. The reverse and a raw source
coin are shown only for comparison. Trivia: although the
U-boat was captured off Africa and towed through 4 Great Lakes to Chicago
after the war, humorous Chicagoans used to convincingly tell gullible
visitors that it was captured in Lake Michigan and shows how close Germany
had come to invading the United States.
While the German navy patrolled off the coast of the U.S., it wouldn’t
have gotten past the Welland Canal. |
The two U-boat
designs pressed on slightly circulated obsolete German 5-pfennig coins. These coins have a brass tone to them, and
because they are slightly circulated you can generally see the image of the
oak clusters from the source coin on the reverse (intensity varies –
visibility is higher for highly circulated coins). The German 5-pfennig
coin (a denomination replaced when Germany adopted the Euro) is slightly
smaller than an American penny, but also slightly thicker. When rolling, the full image is usually
realized. You
will receive two coins with U-boat designs.
The rolled reverse and a source coin are only shown for reference. |

AMISH ACRES NAPPANEE, INDIANA Amish Acres was a shopping and amusement
center in the heart of Indiana’s Amish country. It closed in 2019 when the old owner wanted
to retire but couldn’t find a single buyer.
Parts of the complex were sold at auction, and new owners have
pledged to continue some of its operations, perhaps under a different
name. We arranged to purchase the 4
designs from their penny press rolled on pennies, nickels, dimes and
quarters. When set up at Amish Acres,
the machine only pressed pennies, but the other denominations were rolled by
the machine’s owner after its removal from the shopping center. We are selling these as circulated coins. The pennies
definitely show signs of being pressed on circulated copper cents. The nickels, dimes & quarters range
from shiny uncirculated coins to an occasional coin showing some wear/patina. |

CIVIL WAR MUSEUM Kenosha,
Wisconsin Although These are
pressed on uncirculated copper cents, the machine grips the coins hard,
leaving the appearance of streaking on the surface. I have not tried cleaning them. Designs: “Old Abe the
Battle Eagle”; cannon; eagle holding Union emblem, with “Civil War Museum”
written in an arc across its wing. |

LINCOLN
PARK ZOO Manitowoc,
Wisconsin Unfortunately, this
machine dispenses circulated pennies at a higher price point. There is a decent chance you will get a
copper penny in a set, but please expect all coins to be circulated and very
likely zinc. |

NIAGARA
FALLS, CANADA Niagara
Falls is the anti-Disney. Disney takes
an artificial concept and makes it as good as they can. Niagara Falls, Ontario, takes a natural
beauty and does whatever it can to harm the experience. READ MORE I have limited quantities of these coins
because it can be so frustrating to get them. Machines are being removed from the Niagara
Falls area because of the loss of the penny in Canada. The locations with tokens seem to be
maintaining their presence. |

TABLE ROCK WELCOME
CENTRE FOOD COURT Niagara
Falls, Ontario Set of 4 from the
food court machine on the 1st floor of the visitor center. The hand-crank machine has room for four
dies, but one is blocked out (it was a “Maid of the Mist” design for the boat
tour, but the company conducting the tours has changed to Hornblower). The Maid of the Mist die is still on the
machine, but most collectors probably skip right past it. The machine supplies the U.S. cents used to roll the
coins; they are circulated coins, and almost always zinc pennies. The photo shows a representative set, but
all coins will be circulated and show flaws from dirt, staining, and
handling. Designs: Horseshoe
Falls; maple leaf; CN Tower (Toronto); Maid of the Mist As of
February 2017, all machines at Table Rock are reportedly gone. #ON09-4
- $14.99 |
